Arsenal Need To Forget About Signing Tottenham Defender - Here's Why

Tottenham centre half Younes Kaboul has been linked with a surprising move to north London rivals Arsenal, for a free transfer (according to the Daily Star), when the Frenchman’s contract is up at the end of the season. If the move goes ahead, Kaboul would follow in the footsteps of Sol Campbell, who famously made the controversial switch in 2001.

The biggest question mark for me, is Kaboul’s injury record. He is injured frequently and for long periods, most of the time, so I am confused as to why Arsenal would like to secure his services.

Rumours that Thomas Vermaelen is leaving in the summer does vacate a space in the Gunners’ defensive ranks, but they should be looking for a high quality replacement that can cover for the impressive Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Kaboul is now 28 years of age, by no means past it, but his injury record has to be a huge concern. Add this to the rivalry between the fans and I am not convinced that Arsenal fans would be happy with the proposed switch. Not just for off the field reasons, but for his ability when he plays. He makes regular errors in my eyes and although he is a very physical player in the air, his football skills would not suit the Arsenal style.
