Arsenal & Manchester United Target Bundesliga Ace: Why Dortmund MUST Keep Hold

The Daily Express reports that Borussia Dortmund have offered the highly sought after midfielder IIkay Gundogan a new contract. Klopp must keep him at Dortmund.

With just over a year remaining on his contract, it is imperative for the Dortmund to make a statement here and ensure that another star player does not leave the Westfalenstadion.

Since their rejuvenation under Jurgen Klopp, major players in their back-to-back Bundesliga title winning team have disappeared one by one.

Ivan Perisic is now at Wolfsburg, Shinji Kagawa is at Manchester United and Mario Gotze is soon to be joined at main title rivals Bayern Munich by star striker Robert Lewandowski.

It is important that all the hard work done by the club and Jurgen Klopp to develop these players is not undone, by them gaining a reputation as a selling club.

With the recent increase in clubs with superior financial power, it is even harder for clubs like Dortmund to retain their star player but they must take a stand here or more will follow.

Gundogan is a top priority this summer some big spenders in Europe, Premier League duo Manchester United and Arsenal are both looking to freshen up their midfield.

But the two English clubs will have to fight off interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid as they search for a suitable replacement for the ageing Xabi Alonso.

If Gundogan makes the Joachim Low’s squad for Brazil and has an impressive tournament for Germany he could start a bidding war amongst Europe’s elite.
