Why Vidic Leaving Manchester United Is A Good Thing

It's no longer just a rumor anymore, it’s been confirmed by multiple sources that Manchester United defender and captain Nemanja Vidic is ending his time at Old Trafford and will be signing with Italian giants Inter Milan at the season's end.

This news didn’t surprise me one bit. There had been rumors for months that he was unhappy and was looking to go somewhere else once he got the opportunity. United have been having an awful season as well, so if there was a perfect time to leave, at the end of this season would be that time.

There’s no point in sticking around if you’re unhappy where you are. But what does this mean for Manchester United? The fact that their captain is jumping ship is never a good thing. What’s next for United, and how will Vidic fare at Inter Milan?

To me, it always makes life a lot easier when rumors turn into reality. We will no longer be speculating on the future of Vidic, we know that he will be leaving the Premier League and all we can speculate on now is how United will do without him.

Many people are discussing why it is a bad thing for United that he’s leaving, well I’m going to look into the opposite. Why is it good for Vidic himself that he is moving on?

Manchester United are a massive club, and though Vidic was always a strong force for them since joining in 2006, they will do just fine without him. United will have the entire summer transfer window if they feel the need to get another defender to replace him. Another positive, Moyes can start thinking now about the players that he wants to look into.

The captaincy isn’t a big deal either, there are plenty of other United men that would do just as great a job wearing the armband. Perhaps fellow defender Rio Ferdinand if he stays, or even the newly committed Wayne Rooney, who I’m sure is now a favorite for Moyes.

I personally feel as if variety in a career is a good thing. Vidic has been at United for nine years and I think it’s good that he has decided to take on another challenge and go elsewhere once his contract is up.

Also, Italy is the perfect place for him to go. Serie A has the best defensive tactics in the world in my view, so it's great that Vidic will be heading to a league where the defending is emphasised and that the style of play is slightly different than what he has been used to for the past few years.

Vidic, who is now 32, will most likely appreciate the slower pace of the Italian league. Also, Inter Milan are a good club for him to go to, although they haven’t been as strong as they have been for the past few years. However, the club are really striving to turn that luck around and the signing of Vidic is a huge step towards that goal.

Vidic will of course be missed.  I’m sure United fans will be upset to see him go, but I’m positive they’ll get over that pretty quickly.  I know that Vidic will do well at Inter and perhaps he will meet his old club once again in either the Europa or Champion’s Leagues within the next few years.
