Shaw In, Evra Out? Manchester United Linked With Southampton Defender, But Will It Spark Frenchman's Departure?

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are ready to break the bank to make recent England debutant Luke Shaw the highest-paid teenager in Premier League history. Reportedly, David Moyes is prepared to pay the 18-year-old an overwhelming £75,000-a-week contract in order to bring him to Old Trafford this summer. But could it spell the end of a current United defender?

The youngster will have impressed Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson during his first senior international appearance, earning high praise for the assured nature of his display. Shaw's cameo appearance during his side’s 1-0 victory over Denmark, the teen certainly supported his claim for a World Cup spot.

However, a potential deal between United and Southampton could spell the end of veteran left-back Patrice Evra’s time at Old Trafford. Rumour has it the Frenchman will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season and the impending arrival of Shaw could prove the final nail in the coffin.

Personally I cannot envisage Shaw becoming a Red Devil anytime in the immediate future. He seems quite content at Southampton and if money was to ever become a factor, which appears unlikely at this stage, it seems he would ultimately opt for the club he supported as a child, Chelsea.
