Balotelli To Chelsea Makes Perfect Sense - Here's Why

There are a lot of rumors floating around in the world of football. Some are pretty boring, but occasionally you hear those juicy rumors that you can only hope will come true one day. According to foxsoccer.com, Jose Mourinho has made comments leading us all to believe that Italian striker Mario Balotelli will be making his way over to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Upon hearing this, I immediately got very excited. Yes, Balotelli has a lot of critics;  I’m certainly not one of them. I find his antics amusing and really think that he is a quality player. However, Mouinho’s comments did seem quite vague. If we can actually conclude that Balotelli is a player Chelsea will try to pursue this summer still remains to be seen. But if it does happen, would he fit in at Chelsea, and would he and Mourinho actually get along this time?

In my opinion, I think that Balotelli would thrive at Chelsea if these rumors ended up being true. Ever since the departure of Didier Drogba, Chelsea have struggled to find a permanent man up top that they can rely on for goals. Not for lack of trying of course, it’s almost like a curse.

Strikers like Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o, and Fernando Torres were all powerhouses at their previous clubs. However, all three have failed to deliver since arriving at Chelsea. Especially Torres, who has had plenty of time to improve during his three years at Chelsea. Don’t get me wrong, out if those three, Torres is definitely the most reliable in terms of goals, but he has been there the longest.

Balotelli has previous experience in the Premier League as well; he was a regular fixture for Manchester City before going back to Italy to join AC Milan just last year. Milan are having an awful season, they’re currently 10th in the Serie A table and are certainly not the team that Balotelli expected to join.

As an Italian, perhaps being able to play in his home country was a reason that fueled his decision to leave England, among difficulties at Manchester City, of course. However, Balotelli is still young - he's only 23. I think he still has enough of his career left to not have to go back to play in his own country unless he really wants to, or if it was with a solid, top Italian club.

Not only would Balotelli be able to help with the goals if he were to arrive at Chelsea, other issues that plagued his Manchester City days would no longer be an issue. Mourinho doesn’t take any attitude from anybody - if he doesn’t like you, then you won’t play, it's as simple as that.

The two worked together during their time at Inter Milan, and hopefully since then Balotelli has matured. However, if there were a man to tame the wild ways of Mario Balotelli then Mourinho would be the perfect candidate. It’s not like Chelsea couldn’t use options up top as well, it’s never a bad thing to have too many strikers, especially when the club is struggling to find a permanent go to man for the position.

Would I love to see Balotelli come to Chelsea? Of course I would! Do I actually think it’s going to happen? My gut is telling me no.

I’m sure he would come with quite a hefty price tag, and though Chelsea have had trouble up top, they are having a pretty good season this year. The attacking midfield players are so talented that they are currently making up for the fact that the forwards aren't providing enough goals.

It would probably be an unnecessary purchase, and if he didn’t exceed expectations the transfer itself would most likely be greatly scrutinised. However, it is perfectly fine to dream that Mourinho and Balotelli could be reunited once again.
