Chelsea: Sign Benzema And Offload Current Flops

Chelsea fans have the right to be smug right now. After a tenure with a manager that no one wanted in charge last time out, they are now led by a firm favourite and sit top of the Premier League after 28 games, are sitting pretty in the Champions League and are in the late stages of the FA Cup. It has been a very solid season from the Blues so far, but there are parts of their team that need strengthening.

The main one is the striker berth. Fernando Torres is never going to set the Premier League alight - not anymore, anyway. The Spaniard has lost his pace, has lost his composure and his goal tally has been poor for some time now.

Then there's Demba Ba. The former Newcastle forward has done next to nothing this season and I expect him to leave the club when the end of the season rolls around. Samuel Eto'o has been the pick of the bunch this season but even he has been average, and I would probably look to get rid of him, too.

The man I would get to replace them all and partner Romelu Lukaku, who returns from Everton in the summer, is Karim Benzema.

The first reason for that is because he has worked with Jose Mourinho and the Portuguese coach knows exactly what he's about.

The second is his ability to score goals - he has 19 to his name this season in his 31 games, despite some fans not taking keenly to him.

The last reason is the physical presence that he would bring. None of the current front three would offer that, so to have Benzema and Lukaku available next season would be a huge boost.
