Childish And Unnecessary: Why Cleverley Haters Should Give Him A Break

Tom Cleverley has had a very poor season, that is obvious for most fans to see. As a result, many are calling for him to be dropped from the world cup squad that is announced in May.

There are definite question marks surrounding his place in Roy Hodgson's most recent squad, to play Denmark tonight, but a petition is unnecessary and is only going to have a negative effect on Cleverley's self confidence. He has already been forced to delete his twitter account, following a huge amount of abuse from Man Utd and England fans this season.

The petition is a way of fans getting their feelings across, which they are entitled to do, but in my opinion this is a direct attack on one player, who actually played well in an England shirt, during qualification for the World Cup.

Hodgson has today hit out at the petition stating "That petition does not impress me, I must admit." (via The Guardian), but he backed Cleverley to come through this tough spell, both on and off the pitch. From those comments, the petition is only going to add to Hodgson's reasoning for Cleverley's inclusion in the World Cup squad.
