Tottenham Star Is Wrong To Suggest Liverpool Are Too Reliant On Suarez - Here's Why

Luis Suarez hit his third hat-trick of the season on Saturday in another peerless display to underline his status as one of the finest players in world football. Tottenham centre-half Jan Vertonghen believes that the constant brilliance from the Uruguayan is the key factor in enabling Liverpool to mount an unexpected title challenge and leave Spurs trailing them by nine points.

However, I think Vertonghen is wrong to simply put Liverpool’s run of results down to the magic of the 27-year-old. The Reds made a flying start to the season without their star man and their results early on were testament to the abilities of players such as Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho.

In the past youngsters such as Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson have flattered to deceive, but their improved form has added fresh impetus to Brendan Rodgers' side, who continue to be inspired by captain Steven Gerrard and the talismanic figure of Suarez.

Suarez is as important to Liverpool as Lionel Messi is to Barcelona and has the rare ability to produce something out of nothing. However we should not overlook the performances of the whole Liverpool side.

The red half of Merseyside have a real shot at the title if they can keep everybody fit and not just Suarez. Even in his absence, it would take a brave man to bet against a rampant Liverpool dismantling an inconsistent Tottenham side.

Liverpool's results were good at the start of the season but their form absolutely was not. There is no reason to suppose that good fortune would have continued for the entire season without Suarez.

Vertonghen did not say Liverpool were too reliant on Suarez.
Where do you get that from?
He said that was the difference between the two
    teams.
