Tottenham Lining Up Winger With 17 Goals, But Do They Need Him?

According to the Mirror, Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood wants 21-year-old Salzburg sensation Sadio Mane to be one of his first big-money buys this summer.

Spurs scouts have been to see the highly-rated winger – who has scored 17 goals in 35 appearances this season – on two occasions in recent weeks as they line up a bid when the transfer window re-opens.

Mane has attracted the interest of Chelsea, Manchester City recently and Spurs will likely have to compete with these two clubs in order to secure his signature.

However, reports suggest his advisors are keen on a move to White Hart Lane, where he is likely to have greater chance of nailing down a starting spot than at Stamford Bridge or the Etihad.

With Sherwood chasing a speedy left-sided midfielder the youngster could be the perfect man, but what does this mean for Erik Lamela?

The club-record signing has largely flopped since moving to White Hart Lane in the summer and the arrival of Mane would provide him with stiff competition.

However, I would personally stick with Lamela. He has had a tough start to life in England, especially considering his injury troubles, but he has plenty of talent and a lot still to offer.

The 22-year-old, who cost £30million from Roma, has not featured since Spurs' 3-0 win over Stoke on December 29th after suffering a back problem. If he regains some confidence on his return to fitness, Sherwood may be forced to reconsider his summer priorities.

'What does that mean for Erik Lamela?" Don't he play on the right wing?
