1000 Games Strong: Who Has Been Arsene Wenger's Best Ever Signing?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger celebrates his 1000th game in charge of the Gunners this Saturday in a Premier league tie against title rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Many former Arsenal players have been singing his praises in a recent Daily Mail article, giving their opinion on how Arsene Wenger changed their life for the better and why.  Arsene Wenger arguably changed the face of football by introducing new fitness and eating regimes for the players and delivering a style of attacking play not witnessed in many a year gone by.

Since Arsene Wenger took over from Bruce Rioch at Arsenal in 1996, he has masterminded his team to some memorable wins in the league, domestic cups and in Europe, playing personally, some of the best football seen anywhere in the world.

So who has been Wenger’s best buy to date and why?

Unfortunately, Dutch maestro Dennis Bergkamp cannot be mentioned as Bruce Rioch signed the player for £7.5 million from Inter Milan just before Wenger’s arrival.

For me, Nicolas Anelka remains the buy and sell of the century, but in terms of individual success, Thierry Henry has to be the number one buy for Arsenal.

Joining the Gunners from Juventus in 1999, Wenger had a vision to turn him from a player on the wing into an attacking powerhouse up front, and in so doing amassed 228 goals in all competitions, holding the record of being Arsenal’s all time greatest goal scorer, winning 3 League titles, 4 FA cups and 4 Charity shields in the process.
