Why Brendan Rodgers Deserves A New Liverpool Deal

Liverpool fans around the world are probably still rejoicing after the much deserved win against Manchester united on Sunday. The better side really did receive the three points. United, however, are just really not cutting it this season, and it's starting to become a big problem for them.

Liverpool played brilliantly throughout, with goals from Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez securing their victory. Both of Gerrard's goals were penalties and he also had the chance to make it a hat trick on penalties, but he missed one.

Liverpool now sit in 2nd place, while United are in a disappointing 7th, a complete reversal from this time only one year ago.

The Liverpool players are happy with the way they've been playing and more importantly they are thrilled with the way Brendan Rodgers has been managing them, which is a lot more than United can say about Moyes.

Team moral is an important factor when it comes to team success and right now it is really showing at Liverpool. In fact, Steven Gerrard has stated that he is so happy with the way that Rodgers has been running things, that he's calling for the Liverpool bosses to offer him an extended contract. His current deal expires in 2015 and according to espnfc.com, Gerrard thinks that he should definitely stick around longer.

Remarkably, Rodgers' first season at Liverpool was the club's lowest finish in the table since 1994. It just goes to show how important  it is for a new management team to become settled at a club before anyone can judge a performance. Perhaps United can learn something from that.

I personally agree with Gerrard. Rodgers has been doing a phenomenal job this season and I hope that he is offered a long term contract at Anfield.

Even though the United tie wasn't particularly hard for Liverpool, it definitely had the potential to be. Rodgers has been experimenting with a few different back four combinations this season and he chose his best group to play in defence for Sunday's clash.

His players love him, the supporters love him and the media are also on side. That will only intensify should he deliver the Premier League, and I think that they should sign him on a long term deal.
