Arsenal Trio Sign New Contracts - Here's Why It's Perfect Timing

Two days after Arsenal's victory over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, the club have announced that Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Gedion Zelalem have all put pen to paper on new contracts. Many media outlets have run this story in the past few hours, but the Guardian was one of the first big newspapers to pick up on it.

This is obviously very good news for Arsenal fans as they secured a new deal for one of the more experienced players in the squad, signed up one of the most exciting players at the club to a long term contract, and managed to get one of the greatest prospects at Arsenal to sign his first professional contract. However, there is still no renewal talks from Arsene Wenger or Bacary Sagna which is creating some concern in the capital.

The announcement of the three deals has arrived at the right time for the Gunners for a number of reasons.

The first being the fact that Arsenal haven't had a great couple of months since that 5-1 loss at Anfield. On pitch performances haven't been great, but happenings off pitch have also been disturbing the North London club.

However, victory over Spurs raised the mood of the Arsenal fans, and the new contracts have put an even bigger smile on their faces. With a few more difficult games to go, Arsenal fans need some momentum to take into them, and these two events should do the trick.

The other reason is that these renewals give light to the intentions of Arsene Wenger and how highly he rates his players. It's not often that he would offer new deals to players whose current contracts don't expire at the end of the season. Ramsey is clearly central to his idea and he recognises what Cazorla brings to the team despite the arrival of Mesut Ozil.

I like Wenger's statement of intent with signing all these players up to new contracts and I also like the timing of which these have arrived. Mainly because it gives the team, and the Arsenal fans, a real boost.
