Leeds United Saga Continues But It's The Fans Who Are Suffering

Leeds United fans must be wondering when it will all end. Since the early 2000s the club's board room has been in turmoil and the Elland Road outfit have been severely punished as a result.

The question of who exactly it is that owns Leeds United has been a mystery for years as it seems to be constantly changing. And with the team languishing in mid-table of the Championship the fans can't use the results on the pitch as a way to forget about the absurdities off of it.

This past week saw matters take another bizarre turn as prospective owner Massimo Cellino was ordered to pay a fine of 600,000 euros for illegally evading import duty on a luxury yacht. The verdict is expected to have a significant impact on Cellino's proposed takeover of Leeds Football Club in which he aimed to become a majority stakeholder owning 75% of the club.

Cellino, who also owns Italian club Cagliari, made his intentions of a takeover at Leeds known earlier this year in January under sensational circumstances. He fired popular manager Brian McDermott but then soon asked him to come back before his takeover had actually been confirmed. The takeover is still yet to be confirmed and as a result of the Tuesday's verdict it now appears that it may not happen.

For Leeds it is yet another disastrous off the field episode as the ownership saga rumbles on and it looks as though there is no clear end in sight.
