Real Madrid Want Premier League Keeper, But Would It Be A Step Too Far For Former Manchester United Target?

The Daily Telegraph reports that Real Madrid are looking to bring Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to the Bernabeu, after the World Cup in Brazil.

It is believed that Stoke would demand £15 million for their prized asset, a fee which Los Blancos would happily meet.

The goalkeeping situation at Real Madrid is hotly debated in Spain with many questioning the decision to leave the iconic captain Iker Casillas out of league games.

However, veteran goalkeeper Diego Lopez has barely put a foot wrong since claiming the number one spot from Casillas more than a year ago.

With both goalkeepers linked with summer exits, Ancelotti will look to recruit two new keepers to fight it out for the starting place next season.

Begovic has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League for the past four seasons, and has been strongly linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester United in the past.

Real Madrid will be keeping a close eye on the 6ft5 shot-stopper, when he is with Bosnia-Herzegovina for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Yes, the allure of the Bernabeu and the title of “Galactico” are attractive but I am not sure this would be the best move for Begovic.

He has worked hard to become an established number one, and with Real being linked with Courtois, he would certainly be seen as the back-up.

Begovic is a big fish in a small pond at present but a move to the Spanish capital may be a step too far.
