Should Chelsea Trio Be Offered New Deals?

Although Chelsea ran out 1-0 winners at the Etihad yesterday evening, it was news regarding that three of the club's most experienced players will have to wait until April to find out their future. The trio of players consists of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, all of which have been considered Mourinho favourites at one time or another, but they have been apparently been left sweating about their future. But should they be offered new deals, or should they be released?

I'll start with Ashley Cole. For me, he should be offered a new deal, even if it as backup for Luke Shaw who I think they should be going all out for in the summer. Cole has proved that there is still a lot about him and the confidence he carries on the ball is only growing with age.

With Terry I would also attempt to keep him at the club - for two reasons. The first is because he provides the club with a reliable, steady centre-back who is a natural winner, and the second is to tutor new signing Kurt Zouma when he arrives at the club in the summer.

The big Frenchman is still just 19 and could learn a huge amount from the stalwart.

Lampard is a different story though. For me he looks old, tired and can easily be replaced with others at the club and I think his time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end. He's not the type of player to sit back in a deep role like Steven Gerrard is currently doing, and the attacking options already at the club are superior to him in my eyes.

Firstly, the three of them deserve a new contract, at least a year for now. But looking at their performances it is likely to be JT landing a new deal first and then Lamps second but looking at Ashley.for me might be heading for the exit door come the end of the season prior to him playing a second fiddle to coveted young left back Cesar Aspi. To round things up I would like to state that new deals should be given to both Lamps and JT and let Ashley to go and then CFC should sign a new left back.
