Strong And Intelligent: Why Morata To Arsenal Would Be A Good Move

Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague revealed last night on Revista de la Liga that a deal had been agreed between Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and Arsenal.

The deal would see the Spanish under-21 star make a permanent move to the Emirates in the summer, a move which would no doubt please Arsenal fans.

However, Balague clarified his comments on Twitter after the show explaining that this deal done in principal between Morata’s representatives and Arsenal.

There has been no agreement or discussion between the two clubs at a senior level and no fee has been agreed.

Morata has found his first-team opportunities limited this season, with Karim Benzema scoring regularly and fellow academy graduate Jese now ahead of him in the pecking order.

There doesn’t seem to be anyone in Spain doubting Morata’s quality, with some drawing comparisons with former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes.

But with a settled front three of Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale and the possibility of another top striker coming in the summer, this seems like a good move for everyone.

Morata is yet to break into the senior Spanish squad but he has flourished in the under-21 set up, scoring 11 goals in 12 appearances.

He's a strong, powerful player who loves to make space for himself and I think his intelligence on the ball would benefit Arsenal hugely.

There were reports that Arsene Wenger tried to get Morata in January but Madrid refused to let him go in the middle of the season. However, it seems Wenger may get his man in the summer.
