Moyes Out: Manchester United Boss Is Out Of His Depth

David Moyes' Manchester United suffered a humbling defeat at the hands of Greek Champions Olympiakos. The Greek outfit put the reds to the sword which has added even more pressure on Moyes, who is the first Manchester United manager to lose to Olympiakos in European competition.

Last nights poor showing has been met with heavy criticism from the media and former players as well as fans, but Moyes seems to escape the majority of the criticism. All of sudden the players that were more than good enough to win last seasons Premier league title by eleven points are the main target of this scrutiny.

Striker Robin van Persie seems like he is ready to jump ship after an interview with Dutch television he seemed quite bemused by the tactics. "It was quite difficult because my team-mates are often in the area where I want to play."

This comes just a week after Wayne Rooney has signed a lucrative £300,000 a week 5-year-deal which is sure to look slightly misguided if team performances are to continue. The Manchester United board seem adamant that they have their man and are apparently willing to support him financially in the summer. This, to me, comes across very short-sighted and naive from a club that have changed personnel and many levels since last summer.

Lets play devil's advocate for a second. Throwing money around is all well and good but we now live in an age where there are a good 10+ European elite clubs that can probably match transfer fees and wages.

The Manchester United board are clearly under pressure to succeed and sound like they are doing some damage limitation PR. It is clear that last summer various players turned down a transfer to Old Trafford due to either not knowing enough about the manager or they had been advised that the team were in decline.

Manchester United fans should ask themselves how they are going to compete once they finish outside the top four something that is unheard of since the Premier League's  inception. It is hard enough to attract the really big names and as rivals Manchester City found out it takes time.
