Goodbye, Fernando? Is It Time Chelsea Cut Their Losses With Torres?

Spanish La Liga side Valencia are being reported to be a target for Singapore Businessman Peter Lim who has shown a key interest in taking out of form Chelsea Striker Fernando Torres.

Torres has found it difficult to adjust since his £50 million move from rivals Liverpool in 2011 and has only scored 19 goals in 100 games for the London club. It would be a big bitter pill to swallow for owner Roman Abramovich who saw him as the missing piece of the puzzle when he brokered the deal to bring the Spaniard to Stamford Bridge.

Torres, who is 30 next month, has two years remaining on his contract and it is expected to only take a bid of around £13 million to persuade Chelsea to part ways with the misfiring Striker.

There is no doubt in my eyes that Jose Mourinho will sign a striker next summer the club have already been linked with various big names throughout the previous Transfer window and I don’t expect these to differ in the Summer. Edinson Cavani (Paris St Germain) and Diego Lopez (Atletico Madrid) are the likely targets, there is even talk that Chelsea have first refusal on Lopez due to Lopez’ Manager Diego Simeone wanting Chelsea loanee Thibaut Courtois.

It is no secret that Mourinho’s patience has worn very thin with Torres who has now dropped down the pecking order behind Samuel Eto'o and André Schürrle already. Even with Chelsea struggling for goals recently Torres has found himself warming the bench and it is clear to see Torres’ days at the Bridge are probably numbered.
