A Closer Look At Arsenal Striker Yaya Sanogo

With the summer transfer window now firmly shut, it's a good time to reflect on the summer that Arsenal had - a reflection which could have been much, much worse had Wenger not splashed the cash on Mesut Ozil on deadline day. Arsenal only made three other signings this summer, spending £0 in the process - except the loan fee for Emiliano Viviano and the compensation that was paid to Auxerre for Yaya Sanogo.

Sanogo is a 20-year-old French striker that previously plied his trade for Ligue 2 club Auxerre. He currently plays for his national team at U21 level but competed at the U20 World Cup this summer, where he scored four goals and assisted twice. Before the striker arrived at the club, he managed to score 10 goals in 13 games and assisted one more. Quite an impressive record for someone of his age.

However, the player has a pretty grim looking injury record because just a few seasons back he spent almost the whole season on the treatment table. The season after that, he was out for a further six months.

A young French player signed from Auxerre will ring a few bells for Arsenal fans as both Abou Diaby and Bacary Sagna signed from the French club. But with the former's famed injury record still haunting the minds of Arsenal fans, another French player from Auxerre with an injury record won't exactly stir up too much excitement for Arsenal fans.

Anyway, Sanogo has a lot of potential and he's shown over the last few months his star quality, so I suggest that Arsenal fans don't give up on him just yet.
