Why Signing Mathieu Flamini Was A Wise Move For Arsenal

After looking at Yaya Sangogo in my previous article, I thought I'd have a closer look at Arsenal's French midfielder Mathieu Flamini. Now if your memory serves you well, you will remember the name Mathieu Flamini as the player had previously spent time in the Premier League. In fact, he spent his previous time with Arsenal, when the Gunners had a midfield which included Alex Hleb, Francesc Fabregas and Tomas Rosicky. This time round, though, the Frenchman will be playing alongside Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey to name a few. It's a change, yes, but the quality of players around him remains the same, if not better.

The 29-year-old will plug gaps all over the team. At the weekend, against Tottenham, he played defensive midfielder as a cover for Jack Wilshere. Flamini put in a very good shift and was visibly leading the midfield and the defence with his experience and know how.

He left the club on bitter terms and joined AC Milan in 2008 on a free transfer, but experienced a series of injuries during his time at the club and was released from contract this summer. Having spent all his time since his departure with Arsenal, Arsene Wenger has decided to give him another chance due to his work rate during training and was just generally impressed with Frenchman.

He's versatile, risk free, Premier League experience and he's still a quality player. A wise decision from Wenger if you ask me.
