Why Crystal Palace Could Be The Perfect Platform for Arsenal Man To Show His Credentials (Video)

Having just signed for newly-promoted Crystal Palace, will Marouane Chamakh finally be able to make a name for himself in the Premier League?

An established Morocco international, Chamakh made a promising start to his Arsenal career after arriving from Bordeaux on a free transfer in 2010.  He had been at the French club for ten years, earning a reputation as one of Ligue 1’s best target men and helping his side win the title in 2009.

After initially flourishing at the Emirates, Chamakh suffered a goal drought through the winter months and often found himself on the bench for the Gunners.  Rarely playing 90 minutes for the club, the forward never really recovered and his time in North London has since been uninspiring.

Chamakh did not appear at all for Arsenal in the Premier League last season, with a loan move to West Ham in January ultimately doing no favours for anyone.  Joining until the end of the season and hoping to use the spell to rediscover some form, the striker played just three games for the Hammers without scoring, with Sam Allardyce quickly realising one of the reasons his loan signing had been left out of Morocco’s Africa Cup of Nations squad.

A forgotten man upon returning to Arsenal, Arsene Wenger has decided to let Chamakh leave on a free transfer, with Ian Holloway happy to give the 29-year-old a chance at Selhurst Park.

Now playing for a team likely to be at the opposite end of the Premier League table, will Chamakh prove to Palace fans that he was worth the gamble?
