Arsene Wenger signs an unknown Frenchman with dodgy knees (Video)

I wrote a blog a few weeks ago which addressed Joe Kinnear's madness but also included a joke about Arsene Wenger having a knack for buying unknown French players with dodgy knees.

Somebody commented on the post berating me for even thinking about making a joke when it comes to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger's signings. Astounded by the ferocity of his comment I was only able to laugh at the irony of it all considering that I am an Arsenal fan too.

I suppose some people take this whole football business just a little bit too seriously sometimes, which is fine, but just leave the rest of us who have the capacity to see the funnier side of things to ourselves.

Anyway, mini rant over and now time to focus on that unknown French player with the dodgy knees whom I was referring to in the first place. Yes, that's right, Arsenal's first signing of the summer is French striker Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre. And yes he has had some problems with those knees but this is what makes it the classic Wenger signing.

Never heard of him? Check. History with injuries? Check. From Auxerre? Check. French? Check. Yep, this is classic Wenger alright and I, for one, am excited to see what the young man can do.

There are other sections of the Arsenal fanbase annoyed that this signing isn't that bloke who plays for Madrid who we have been linked for what feels like a decade now but it is an acquisition nonetheless.

Don't know anything about the chap? Well, here is an informative scouting video displaying some of his goalscoring tendencies so go ahead and inform yourself.

This is the sort of signing that really excites me, much more than buying an established name. Watching him develop will be fascinating and I have a hunch we have a future megastar in the making.

Unknown Frenchman with dodgy knees- hmm if he's anything like one of his previous he'll do ok. No not Diaby. Viera!!!

I watched him briefly in one of the France U-20 games and I wasn't too impressed. Injuries aside he's another Giroud- height, a bit of industry but really not the class of Ibra or Dzeko. I won't be surprised if he ends up another version of Chamakh

I've read an article above concerning Arsenal signing an unknown striker. I must admit I was also personally amused by that signing cos indeed he is not known. Just like the author above, I am waiting to see what the younster has to offer. To me, it appears Wenger has a habit of signing these younsters who in the end fail to deliver; think of the likes of Vela, Bendtner and a host of others who failed to deliver.
As an arsenal fan, I am beginning to loose hope in signing any striker capable of penetrating defences.
For Wenger, this is a yearly promise, he still believes that he can achieve miracles with a relatively inexpensive and inexperienced squad.
