Why next season the magic of the FA cup can return

It was announced today with the rest of the season’s fixtures that the FA cup will be played after the end of the Premier League for the first time since 2010. This is a move that will bring joy to most fans of the beautiful game as most felt that the cup final being played before the end of the season took away the magic of the fixture.

When you think of the FA cup final traditionally it has been the last fixture on the calendar held at Wembley at 3 o’clock on a Saturday afternoon. It’s what fans dream about the atmosphere on Wembley way, seeing their team walk out onto that hallowed turf and hopefully lifting the trophy after all is said and done.

It’s fair to say that for most teams the FA Cup is the highest prize in English Football and it’s a great honour to say your team has won it and that is why so many fans feel that the cup deserves a day to itself. In recent seasons however the FA have been forced to move the final date forward to allow for Wembley to host the Champions League final.

Another issue that fans have taken up with the FA about the cup final is the kick off time, for the last two years the cup final has been a late kick off which has caused all sorts of disruption with supporters that have to use public transport. Last year’s cup final saw a huge outburst towards the FA and rail companies from Wigan and Manchester City fans as there were only limited trains available at the later times which meant a lot of fans had to wait longer to make their way back up north.

This is an issue which will hopefully be resolved next season as the Cup final will be held on Saturday May 17th, six days after the end of the Premier League season. Wigan are the current holders after they stunned Manchester City with a 1-0 win in the dying minutes over the former
    Premiership champions.

With the fixtures now known fans up and down the country will now all be wishing that their team have one extra match in their calendar at the end of the season.
