Manchester United close to sealing defender deal

Manchester United said goodbye to their gaffer of 26 years today, and also a long-serving hero in the shape of Paul Scholes, but another player who has served the club well over the years is close to signing a contract extension at the club.

Rio Ferdinand is just five weeks away from being a free agent but David Moyes is working with the club to add another year to his deal, according to the Telegraph. The former England captain is currently on £115,000-per-week at Old Trafford but could be asked to take a slight wage cut.

Not that he needs the money.

The man with the flappy lips may not be everyone's cup of tea, his irritating smugness and the way he NEEDS to be involved in everything slightly controversial just some examples of why, but he has had another strong season in Manchester.

Ferdinand retired from international football this week, although some argue that he hasn't being playing for the country for the last few years due to his dismal displays.

Apparently Ferdinand has received numerous big money offers to tempt him away from the Premier League champions but he is looking to play out at least another 12 months oop north.

I for one hope he packs his bags and buggers off somewhere remote so we don't have to listen to his gibberish.
