4 Defensive Midfielders That Should Be On Arsenal's Radar Next Summer

You might say that this article has no relevance or is just plain stupid considering the amount of depth Arsenal have in midfield, but just hear me out. Every club who wants to challenge for the title must have two or three players in every position capable of making the starting line up. Arsenal do have that in midfield, but when you need consistency and you look at who can actually play defensive midfield well, then you'll realise that Arsenal are quit bare in that position.

Mathieu Flamini is the best player who plays in that position for Arsenal in my eyes but he's ill-disciplined and is often ruled out because of suspension. Mikel Arteta is second choice for this position but at the age of 31, Arsenal need a long term replacement for him as his sharpness will deteriorate shortly. Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey aren't suited to the defensive midfield role so perhaps a signing in the summer or even January is best advised for the Gunners.

    1. Nemanja Matic

The Benfica man has been absolutely incredible for his side this season and was instrumental in their Europa League campaign last season which saw them reach the final. The 25-year-old is at the right age but is expensive if you read all the rumours surrounding him. He's a big player ready for a move to someone like Arsenal or of the same calibre.

    2. Morgan Schneiderlin

Schneiderlin has been fantastic for the Saints this season which has helped them achieve one of the best defensive records in the Premier League.

    3. Lars Bender

The twin who plays for Bayer Leverkusen was brilliant against England on Tuesday evening and proved exactly why he got the call up. A confident, young defensive midfielder, with passion that knows no bounds. Brilliant at breaking up play, linking up with team mates and passing in general.

He has was constantly linked with a move to north Londoners over the summer, with an offer actually rejected by the club. But I would expect Arsenal to go back for the player in January or in the summer.

    4. Blaise Matuidi

The Frenchman has been amazing for PSG ever since he linked up with the club back in the summer of 2011 from fellow French side, Saint-Etienne. He's a warrior and will scare the opposition because of his fearless nature. If you were to engage in a 50-50 with Matuidi you'll come out on the other side declaring that it was more like an 80-20.

When the 26-year-old commits to a challenge, he really does commit. Flamini gives Arsenal the fear factor, in his absence, Arsenal don't have another player like that. Matuidi can be that man.

From the 18th century, obesity was considered not just unattractive and morally slack, but distinctly comic. Big crowds travelled to marvel at this kind of prodigies of fatness as Edward Vibrant, an Essex grocer who weighed 44st, and whose coat might be buttoned around seven normalsized men devoid of straining the ...
