Could Gary Hooper score goals in the Premier League? (Video)

Having just turned down a bid of around £5 million, Celtic will be hoping to keep hold of their goal machine Gary Hooper.

The offer came from Norwich City, who are looking to bolster their attack after being left short with injuries to Grant Holt and Steven Morison.  The Canaries have done well to avoid the relegation dog-fight again so far this season, but manager Chris Hughton is aware that losing either of their main strikers for a period of time could leave them in trouble.

With 50 goals in 95 appearances for Scunthorpe United, Hooper boasted an incredible goal-scoring record of better than a goal every other game.  This earned the former non-league striker a move to Scottish giants Celtic, where he has gone on to find the net even more than during his time in North Lincolnshire.

Top goal-scorer at his respective club every year since 2009, last season saw Hooper win the Scottish Premier League Golden Boot.  He was also named in the SPFA SPL Team of the Year for the second year in a row.

He may have proven himself in the Championship and Scotland’s top flight, but does Gary Hooper have what it takes to shine in the world’s most intense league?

You bet your life he could, however, why would he want a potential relegation dogfight which may bring Championship football and damage his chances of an England call up? or hang around until the summer, play v Juve in the CL last 16 and maybe more, remain in Hodgson's thoughts and then clinch a domestic treble.

IMO it'll take at least a bid of £8m, when you consider what NUFC got for a diddy like Carroll, then Norwich would be getting a poacher who has done it for 5/6 seasons as well as doing it in Europe's premier competition for a fraction.

Got to laugh at how much the English rate their league lol

All it has is money - the foreigners make the majority of the players look good.

Tell me, is the goals smaller in England, or the Goalkeepers so much bigger and better - no so why wouldn't Gary Hooper score in the EPL.

Man Utd are romping the league already and they are a shadow of their former selves - 2nd and 3rd placed Man City and Chelsea are OUT the UCL and Chelsea got gubbed in the super cup by Athletico Madrid. Seriously, come out your bubble of thinking it's "the best league in the world" Its no even close. The Spanish and German league is far superior and the French is even more naturally technically gifted.

Players like Stephen Fletcher jumping from team to team for obscene amounts of money, not to mention the Carrol misfit lol

Most SPL players go to England and do very well.

How much do you think Gary Hooper would be worth if he was scoring goals for an English club in the UCL at the tender age of 24?? You wouldn't see much change from 15 million anyway!!

With all respect for Norwich. If you want to buy Gary Hooper from Celtic, then you are going to have to think somewhere near double of what you offered. This man is a goal scoring machine, as he's proved anywher he has played, including Champions League. £5m, insulting!

the most intense league is the champions league followed by la liga, he has unfortunately only been able to prove himself in the champions league and not la liga, which probably proves he is not good enough for the EPL, thats the logic isnt it?

Watch the video and judge for yourselves. As close as you're ever going to get to Gary Lineker. Give him the ball in, or around the penalty area...and you're 1-0 ahead.

    bmc...u call that logic lol

That proves he's good enough to score against Europes elite. The EPL top 3 have 1 left in the Tournament!. Nuff said.

Over-rated is an understatement!! He'll score for fun down there as most of the players are over-paid lumps!
