Long term Arsenal target close to signing up

Arsenal are very close to securing the signature of a long-term midfield target according to Sky Sports.

The site reports that the Gunners are very close to agreeing a deal to bring Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin to the club.

The report does not mention if it is a loan or permanent move but following the sale of Alex Song to Barcelona, Arsenal are thought to be keen to sign up the Turkish midfielder.

Liverpool were thought to be in the hunt for the 23-year-old but Arsene Wenger has emerged as the favourite to land the Turk after he failed to make an impact in his debut season at Madrid.

The report adds that if Sahin wants to make the move, it could happen before the weekend.
