Manager rules out selling his 'pivotal' striker

A Premier League manager has ruled out selling one of his strikers.

Spurs striker Jermain Defoe has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer after finding starts hard to come by at the club over the past few seasons.

The 29-year-old is the only senior striker currently on the books at the club and scored in Spurs opening game of the season away at Newcastle on Saturday.

However, Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has assured the England international that he remains pivotal in his plans for the club despite the Portuguese manager actively searching for another striker to strengthen his squad.
