Liverpool midfielder the reported target of Bolton

A product of Liverpool's youth system is the reported target of Bolton Wanderers.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle has described the Reds' midfielder Jay Spearing as a “wonderfully talented young player” although stopped short of confirming that he was trying to secure the services of the midfielder.

Bolton are thought to be in the market for a defence-minded player in the centre of midfield and reports have suggested Spearing could be that man after he was left out of the 18-man squad for Liverpool's Premier League season opener against West Brom on Saturday.

Coyle confirmed that the centre of midfield was an area he was considering strengthening but did not wish to comment on the status of the 23-year-old Spearing coming to the Reebok.
