Dempsey close to Fulham exit

Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey has edged closer to an exit from Craven Cottage as he has been left out of Martin Jol's squad to face Norwich in the Premier League's opening weekend.

Jol has called the transfer saga, which has dragged on for most of the summer, "embarrassing" and admitted his American midfielder is not committed to the club , saying it would be "impossible to keep the 29 year old.

Dempsey, who has one year left on his current contract at Fulham, has been tracked by Liverpool for the majority of the summer and even though their interest has cooled of late, they may be drawn in by the latest developments.
