Madrid star “honoured” with Gunners link

Arsenal target Karim Benzema told pals he was “honoured” with recent reports linking him with a move to the Emirates, but intends to stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu.

Arsene Wenger has revealed earlier on in the week his admiration for the former Lyon forward but the 23-year old has quashed any potential move, Benzema said "For me it's an honour that big clubs and big coaches are interested in me. That shows I have increased my level as a footballer.

"But I have spoken face to face with Jose Mourinho and I don't believe he wants to sell me this summer. I wasn't consistent in my game last season but hopefully things have changed now.

"I want to demonstrate my level to the coach. I want to show people the best version of Benzema this season.

"I don't worry even if Real Madrid agree deals with other clubs for new forwards. This will only inspire me."
