Liverpool ready to swoop for former Barcelona winger

Cash strapped Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon are looking to flog Spanish international Diego Capel in order to raise funds and save themselves, and the Mirror believes that Liverpool may well be the player's next destination.

Spain international Capel, who is 25, looks certain to move on in the summer for a fee believed to be around £10 million.

The player gained his footballing grounding at Spanish giants Barcelona, coming through their famous youth system before joining Sevilla in his early teens, and then winding up at Sporting Lisbon in 2011.

When he left Seville Capel, who has two caps for the Spanish national side, was initially linked with a move to north London with Tottenham.

Should Liverpool pursue their interest they are rumoured to face stern opposition for the player's signature. French giants Marseille are one of a number of clubs supposedly interested in Capel.

Sporting's financial plight has left them vulnerable to prying eyes, and Capel is one of their most saleable assets. Plying his trade on the left wing, Capel would, Reds fans should hope, provide the Anfield side with some much needed width.

Should the deal go through Capel would be one of a reported bevy on new faces through the doors on the red half of Merseyside.
