No get out for Ricky van Wolfswinkel

The pending transfer of Ricky van Wolfswinkel was thrown up in the air recently when his agent came out and said he will only move to Norwich depending on the league they are playing in next season. Even though, Chris Hughton believes he will join no matter what.

The deal itself, which I feel is huge for the Carrow Road outfit and was largely swept under the carpet even though he is considered to be one of the hottest prospects coming out of Europe. With a 4 year deal waiting to be signed as soon as the season finishes, the 24 year olds transfer will be scrapped entirely if the canaries are relegated according to his agent. But, today, Chris Hughton has denied there is a relegation release clause in his pre-contract with the club. With just over a 1 goal every 2 game ratio, he has proved he can score goals for Lisbon.

I cannot see a player who was recently transferred from Sporting Lisbon for a reported £8.5 million, who are 7th in the Portuguese league and playing in front of 50,000 a week at their home ground to a team who have recently been relegated to the 2nd tier of English football. I’m sure Norwich would be able to sustain his contract demands if they do end up languishing towards the end of the season and do end up getting relegated. Due to new parachute payment increase that have been recently announced and in my opinion, no one at the club who is that much of a top earner who would need to be sold to free up funds for the new Dutch striker, unlike West Ham when they were relegated recently and possibly the same situation QPR will face If they do not pull of mission impossible and survive the scrap this season.

Hughton’s men,  who sit in 14th on 35 points are only 4 points clear of relegation contenders Wigan, who have a game in hand on the canaries. Either way, if Norwich do go down, which they probably won’t because there is definitely 3 teams who are worse in the league than them, I’m sure they would be right back up and hopefully with a Grant Holt & Wolfswinkel strike partnership, the stuff of dreams, ladies and gents.
