    Martinez targets Scandinavian reinforcements

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has revealed that his previous attempts to strengthen his side with Scandinavian scouted talent has come bearing with no gifts.

Martinez and his men, who are at the heart of yet another relegation battle and have becoming something of a barnacle of the league as they cling, once again to their position in the top-flight. Arguably, they do play some decent enough football after Christmas. In my eyes, it’s massively due to their better players being lured away to the more illustrious and desirable clubs in the league, meaning that every summer, Martinez drafts in new players to fill the position of the previous occupant, such as Charles N’Zogbia, Antonio Valencia, Wilson Palacios, Hugo Rodallega to name a few departures and all of them have gone on to bigger clubs and the holes they leave have been filled, but due to a bedding in period which is needed, Wigan do not really wake up until the middle of the season when the gelling period has taken effect.

Martinez did not name any names of the players he has identified to add to his squad and hopefully climb up the table next term, but reports suggest he has targeted Copenhagen striker, Andreas Cornelius, who has netted 18 times in 29 appearances and is only 20 years old. Jores Okore, another 20 year old but a big, commanding Danish centre back, I’ve seen him play a few times and if he is consistently as good as I’ve seen of him, he has all the means to go on to be one of the best centre halves in the world. With other attacking options on his wish list, he has saluted to the Danish mentality of football, maybe a gem he may uncover could be another Danish superstar like either of the Laudrup brothers…Let’s hope he does.
