Spurs set to miss out on Spanish Striker

Tottenham’s annual pursuit of Sevilla front man, Alvaro Negredo may be stopped dead in its tracks this transfer window.

The Metro is reporting that Dortmund have jumped ahead of the North London club and lined up Negredo as a replacement for the possibly departing Robert Lewandowski.

Negredo was a member of Spain’s Euro 2012 winner’s squad, playing twice in the tournament and often being used ahead of the much vaunted Fernando Llorente.

The striker is perennially linked with the White Hart Lane club, indeed The Mail reported as far back as July 16th 2009, that the then Real Madrid striker was expected to sign for Spurs by the weekend.

The pursuit clearly transcends whoever is manager at the time, leading many to surmise that it would be a Daniel Levy signing.

It had appeared to some that the Negredo/Tottenham unrequited love affair had run its course and that Leandro Damiao was now the object of Daniel Levy’s wanton affection, the Juliet to his Romeo, if you will.

It would probably be fair to say that the Brazilian has now usurped Negredo as favourite, but like that ex you just can’t shake Levy might be tempted to go back for one last go if Leandro continues to play hard to get.
