    Dortmund Bid For Chelsea Youngster

Chelsea, according to The Metro are faced with the prospect of losing young Belgian starlet, Kevin De Bruyne with Borussia Dortmund reported to have put in a bid of £14.5m for the twenty one year old.

The paper suggests that the midfielder could be “Yet another promising player to come and go at Stamford Bridge.” It fails however to name any of the other players to whom it’s inferring may have slipped through the Stamford Bridge net or indeed why one of the world’s richest clubs would feel inclined to accept a fee for a player they wished to keep.

The club, after a less than successful initial foray into the world of youth development during the Frank Arnesen period, can now rightfully claim that they are among the leaders in this area.

The acquisition of the likes of Oscar, Courtois, Lukaku, Ake and De Bruyne himself, would suggest they are certainly identifying players, this along with the recent appearance in the Nextgen Series Final would indicate that they’re doing something right.

It will always be difficult for young players to get a chance in any of the top teams in England. The standard required is not achievable for all youngsters and as has often happened at clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal, players need to go away and find their level.

This definitely isn’t an issue that is unique to Chelsea and indeed at the moment they probably have a better success rate than most.
