Garay story rumbles on

The latest in a transfer saga that looks set to rumble on is that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to push through a move for former Real Madrid defender Ezquiel Garay, amid interest from other top European clubs.
Negotations have, according to Mirror Football, begun in earnest between United and Garay's club Benfica over a potential £15 million move. Ferguson's urgency is thought to have been brought about by apparent interest from Chelsea and Barcelona.
United have been linked with the Argentine defender for many weeks by a variety of news outlets, but it is only now that they have supposedly been blindsided by rival clubs that they will look to close out the deal.
Fergie has been sending scouts over to Portugal on a regular basis, and has thus clearly been impressed by the imposing 6ft 4in Garay. The 26 year old may be seen as a long term replacement for Rio Ferdinand, who finds himself in the midst of a media backlash for his decision not to travel with England to San Marino, but deemed himself fit enough to travel abroad to commentate.
Despite the interest of rivals, Fergie is reportedly confident that Garay will run out at Old Trafford next term.
