Norwich near deal for European striker

One of the most amusingly named footballers in Europe could be on his way to the Premier League says BBC Sport.

Apparently Norwich City are in talks to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky Van-Wolfswinkel. Meanwhile the nation’s papers rejoice.

The Netherlands international has been linked with a move to England for quite some time now after impressing for Sporting since his move from Utrecht in 2011. He has scored a goal every other game during his time in Portugal and will now try to transfer this form to Carrow Road.

Sporting are rumoured to be in financial trouble, hence why they are being forced to sell their star striker. Of course he will have to wait until the summer to join up with the Canaries but if the BBC are to be believed, it is practically a done deal.

The fee is rumoured to be around £8.5m which and although it seems expensive for a side like Norwich, is exactly the kind of signing they need to make if they are to push on in the Premier League and avoid looking over their shoulder at the relegation zone next season. Chris Hughton’s side are still too heavily reliant on Grant Holt to provide goals, and as he isn’t really scoring right now, this has become a bit of an issue.
