Clubs to target young Saints left back

Before we tell you about this one it is worth letting you know that you have not stepped foot in a time machine and gone back five years or so, as The Metro are reporting that Chelsea and Spurs are set to do battle for a young 17 year old left back. You can just imagine years ago similar headlines being written about Gareth Bale, but it is now Luke Shaw who is the latest hot prospect to be rolled of the St Mary's talent treadmill.

Things though are a little different to what they were back when the Saints were raided for stars like Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Chamberlian, for they now have the financial clout to more than compete with anyone. Meaning that signing Shaw is likely to prove a whole different ball gam to the sales of those players in the past, with the club in no need at all to sell and given that Shaw has also recently signed a new five year deal to stay at the club, a mega offer is likely to be required.

Tottenham might see signing Shaw as the chance to form an irresistible left side whilst Chelsea might think they can bring in a replacement for Ashley Cole, however if they are genuinely going to bag the player it is likely to take a bank busting bid which for such a youngster will always have its risks and further to that spending such money on a full back should also be questioned.
