PSG star targeted by Prem big guns

Now this is one that should excite Premier League fans.

TalkSport are reporting that both Liverpool and Manchester United are planning a move for PSG midfielder Marco Vertatti, but will face competition from Real Madrid.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Veratti he has been dubbed ‘the new Pirlo’ and for once the comparison is not too far off. Seeing as its rather unlikely that we’re going to see the actual Pirlo cropping up on Super Sunday anytime soon a move for Veratti could be the next best thing.

To be frank though, it seems that Liverpool are slightly out of their league here. TalkSport may not have noticed but it’s not 2008 anymore, the only thing the Reds are realistically competing with Madrid and United for right now are Japanese shirt sales and a ‘most fanatical fans’ award.

It is extremely unlikely that Veratti himself would fancy a move to Anfield to play alongside Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson and battle it out with West Brom and Fulham for a top-half finish. Especially after witnessing the torrid time Nuri Sahin - another talented deep-lying playmaker – experienced under Brendan Rodgers. The Madrid man was played as a number ten and then dropped for Henderson and now says he is glad to have got away from Rodgers. Veratti will surely be keen to avoid a similar fate.

The apparent asking price of £30m would also seem to knock Liverpool out of the running, whilst the 20-year-old’s misfortune in his choice of position surely rules out a move to United as it would require Sir Alex signing a midfielder.
