Misfiring Blues man rejects Russian escape route

It's safe to say, amidst yet another goal drought, that £50 million man Fernando Torres has failed to shine at Chelsea.

Scoring his last league goal in December, in the 8-0 thrashing of relegation-threatened Aston Villa, Torres has once again lost his shooting boots. He has scored twice since against lower-league opposition (Brentford and Middlesbrough) in the FA Cup, but the latter goal came as a result of Ramires' shot deflecting off his back and into the goal.

So yeah, not the greatest run of form. Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, they have never seen any real run of form from the Spanish striker in a Blues shirt. However, rich Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala don't seem to mind the Spaniard's barren streak, hoping the less rigorous defenses in Russia might give the striker a chance to recreate his Liverpool form.

Torres, however, is determined to stay and fight for his place, rejecting any notion of an escape route to an easier league. This may be disappointing for everyone involved, as it could have been a good way for Chelsea to sell off a man who can only be described as a ridiculously expensive flop, it may well have rejuvenated Torres' career, and no doubt many Chelsea fans will be happy to see the back of him. Will his stubbornness pay off? My money's on no.
