Madrid star told to stay put

United fans' hopes of re-signing their prolific ex-forward Cristiano Ronaldo will have taken a blow as the Portugal captain's agent has told him to stay put for a year before making his move away from Madrid.

This doesn't necessarily mean, of course, that he won't move back to United, after having previously stated that he was willing to cut his current salary in half in order to rejoin the red half of Manchester. In fact, the move makes a lot of financial sense, and actually points toward what would be a legendary return to Old Trafford for the winger. With two years left on his contract, his current valuation would likely be miles out of United's price range. However, in a year's time, Madrid will have no choice but to cash in on the star for a cut-price, or risk losing the man widely regarded as the world's second-best player (the best, in some cases) on a Bosman.

Were he to leave this summer, the only teams that could afford to buy him would probably be PSG and Manchester City, the latter being a team Ronaldo would never join, if his loyalty to the Red Devils proves genuine. Patience is a virtue, and in a year or so's time, Manchester United may well be a team rewarded for said patience - with a world-class goalscorer.
