      Higuain set for north London?

In a week that has seen Cristiano Ronaldo and Xabi Alonso both linked with a Premier League return, could Gonzalo Higuain be set to join them? Mirror Football is predicting a battle between north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for the Argentine hitman.

Spanish media sources have reported this week that Higuain is unhappy at the Bernabeu, having seemingly fallen behind Frenchman Karim Benzema in the pecking order. He has reportedly told the club that he wishes to engineer a move to England, and has been given the necessary permission to search for it.

The Mirror reports that Spurs and Arsenal are leading the chase. Spurs have a good working relationship with the Spanish club, having negotiated with them on deals for Rafael Van der Vaart, Emmanuel Adebayor and Luka Modric in recent years. What they must be wary of however, is Higuain becoming a makeweight in any potential deal for Gareth Bale. The Argentine is valued at around £22million alone.

Arsenal too have made no secret of their desire to add more firepower to their line-up, which is quite clearly bereft of the necessary talent to lay seige upon the Premier League title. Arsene Wenger would have dispense with his hatred of spending to take Higuain to the Emirates, however.
