Burke pleased to be with Blues

Now back in the Scotland squad after six years without recognition, Chris Burke has said that he is happy at Birmingham City.

According to Sky Sports, the winger had been targeted by Nottingham Forest and Leeds United, who both currently sit four points ahead of Blues in the Championship table.  Burke, however, claims he loves playing at St Andrew’s and is looking to help the club push on for the rest of the season.

Lee Clark’s side have struggled so far this season and achieving a play-off place is looking like a massive challenge.  They are actually closer to the relegation zone than making their way back to the top flight, but recently securing back-to-back victories will give supporters hope.

Burke has Champions League experience from his time at Rangers as well as competing in the Europa League with Birmingham last season.  After leaving Glasgow to move to the Welsh capital in 2009, he became a regular fixture in Cardiff City’s lineup, helping the Bluebirds reach the play-off final in his first full season at the club.  Cardiff would again make the play-offs the following campaign, before the Scotland international joined Birmingham in 2011.

Whether it is for Rangers, Cardiff, Birmingham or Scotland, there is no doubt what colour Burke is used to wearing on a football pitch.  Most of the 50 goals of his career so far have come in a Birmingham shirt, and Blues fans will hope that there are many more to come.
