      Chelsea target £10m Shaw

Despite the fact that no one knows who the Chelsea manager will be in the summer, The Mail are clued up as to who will be taking over from Ashely Cole at left-back when everyone’s favourite defender hangs up his boots.

That man will apparently be Southampton’s Luke Shaw. Well, we say man, Shaw is still just 17-years-old but his impressive performances this season for Saints see him being tipped as a future England regular.

According to The Mail Chelsea failed with a £10m bid for Shaw in January but are now confident of landing him in the summer as talks continue.  The Blues could well loan Shaw back to the south coast club for the duration of next season as a sweetener in any potential deal.

Cole is still under contract for another 12 months but at 32, the 100 cap man won’t go on forever and next season could well be his last at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will face competition from Arsenal in their efforts to sign Shaw as Arsene Wenger has identified the youngster as a priority target. However the Blues are apparently in pole position to snap up Southampton’s brightest prospect.

23-year-old Ryan Bertrand has previously been tipped as Cole’s successor for club and country but Shaw’s performances have eclipsed Bertrand’s so far this season with the Chelsea youngster often deployed in midfield.
