There’s something funny about the current Arsenal squad. Evidently the players Arsene Wenger has put together are not of sufficient quality to challenge for the league title, yet it is difficult to work out exactly where the Gunners are lacking. There is a certain mediocrity throughout the entire squad that is not going to be fixed in one transfer window.
It will also not be fixed by the singing of one of ‘the Bundesliga’s rising stars’ however that Is exactly who Wenger is after according the Sun.
Sebastian Rode is his name and he is currently being all midfieldish and defensive for Eintracht Frankfurt. However The Sun reckon the German Under-21 international would jump –literally or metaphorically, we’re not sure – at the chance to play in the Premier League.
A new defensive midfielder would go down rather nicely at the Emirates where the current idea of a solid midfield presence is Abou Diaby who is also the only man to pick up 132 (approx.) seperate injuries in a single season.
The Gunner’s will face some stiff competition from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund however as the Bundesliga big boys look to hoover up the league’s top talent. With just 16 months remaining on Rode’s contract though his club will probably be tempted to cash in on one of their prized assets in the summer if Arsenal come in with a substantial bid. And how substantial is substantial? I hear you cry. £7.5m, okay. Substantial enough for you?
