Manchester City chase Reus and Navas

For such an expensively put together side Manchester City have never really possessed too many exciting wide options. David Silva and Samir Nasri are normally found occupying the wings for the Citizens, but both players are more effective centrally. James Milner trys hard but has never really had the pace or trickery to be a truly world class winger, and the less said about Scott Sinclair’s time at City the better.

So finally it seems that the Champions are going to seek out some top quality wide players, and if the Daily Star are to be believed then top of their summer shopping list are Marco Reus and Jesus Navas.

City failed to really improve their side during either of the last two transfer windows, so instead of muddling through with a few average signings this summer apparently director of football Txiki Begiristain will look to add some world class talent.

Navas would appear to be the cheaper option, with cash strapped Sevilla unable to force too high a price from a player who’s contract is up in 2015. The Star reckon the La-Liga side will accept around half of the winger’s £35m buy out clause. Seems pretty reasonable.

Reus on the other hand will set you back rather more.  The German international is still just 23 and rated as one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers. Apparently Dortmund value him at around £30m.

The last interesting thing of note from the story is the omission of boss Roberto Mancini’s name from the first five paragraphs. Begiristain is presumed to be in charge of this summer’s business which doesn’t say much for Mancini’s future at the club.
