Liverpool switch attentions to Al-Habsi

Liverpool are turning their attentions to Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi says, the Daily Mail, after being told that Stoke will want £15m to part with Asmir Begovic.
The current incumbent of the Anfield nets, Pepe Reina, seems to be coming to the end of his spell at the club. The Spaniard has suffered a severe dip in form over the past couple of seasons yet would still command a hefty fee if Brendan Rodgers did decide to cash in.
Begovic had been touted as a possible replacement however if Stoke are not prepared to budge on their asking price it seems the Reds will look elsewhere.
Whether Al-Habsi would be much of a step up from Reina though is debateable. The Oman international is often credited with keeping a struggling Wigan side in games they would otherwise lose, however has also made several high profile blunders this season. At 31 he is hardly one for the future and with his time at Wigan and Bolton representing the biggest clubs he has turned out for so far there is always the possibility that Al-Habsi would struggle with the added pressure of playing at one of the league’s biggest sides.
Liverpool have also been linked with Victor Valdes in recent weeks and the Spain international has expressed a desire to play in England. However Valdes is also being targeted by Arsenal so Rodger’s will have a fight on his hands if he decides to go in for the Barca man.
