Liverpool and Southampton keen on Biglia

Oh how the mighty(ish) have fallen. According to the Sun Liverpool will battle it out with Southampton for Argentinian international Lucas Biglia this summer after his club, Anderlecht announced they would let the midfielder leave in a cut price deal.

The Saints are seemingly the Red’s new transfer rivals with the South Coast club poaching Gaston Ramirez from under Liverpool’s nose in the summer before Phillipe Coutinho decided to move to Anfield rather than St. Marys last month.

The 27-year-old is available for around £5m – much lower than his club’s initial £8m valuation.

Liverpool have been tracking Biglia for some time but now that Mauricio Pochettino has taken over at Southampton it seems as though he is also rather keen on his countryman.

The highly rated Biglia appears to be pushing for a move and has even picked up a suspension from his club after going AWOL hence why the Belgium side are willing to let him go for a lower price.

“If we get 5.5million euros for Biglia during the next transfer window, we will be happy.” Said Anderlecht managing director Herman van Holsbeeck

Despite his current relationship with his club Biglia has been one of the outstanding performers for the side. Generally positioned in front of the back four in a double pivot midfield the Argentine is a fantastic passer of the ball, both long and short, and can hit a wonderful set-piece. His passing ability is probably what draws Brendan Rodgers to him as the Red’s boss looks to implement his philosophy onto the Merseyside club.
