Martinez looks at former Portugal defender

Once considered one of the best right-backs in Europe, former Valencia defender Miguel could be about to line up for relegation-threatened Wigan in the Premier League.
Sky Sports have reported that the Latics are considering offering him a contract, with the 33-year-old having been without a club since leaving Los Che in the summer. He spent seven years at the Mestalla, most notably representing the Spanish side in the Champions League and being part of the team that helped secure their 2008 Copa del Rey win.
Miguel first became noticed on the world stage, however, whilst he was playing for Benfica. After impressing for the Portuguese giants in his homeland, the defender would receive a call-up to his country’s Euro 2004 squad. With the tournament being held in Portugal, Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side made their nation proud by battling their way to the final, before ultimately being undone by underdogs Greece to finish as runners up.
The quality of the player is no better exemplified by the fact that he was selected for four consecutive international tournaments. Miguel travelled with Portugal to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and South Africa for the 2006 World Cup, Euro 2008, and the 2010 World Cup respectively.
Complementing a combined 335 games in the Primeira Liga and La Liga with 50 European appearances, Miguel is not short of experience. Will he be recruited by Roberto Martinez to try and help Wigan avoid the drop yet again?
